Client Testimonial - Nicola
Coming to terms with hearing loss at any age is tough, coming to terms with hearing loss under 40 is horrible. The first audiologist I visited couldn’t wait to hand over a brochure packed with expensive hearing aids, within minutes of telling me I had a significant hearing loss in both ears. Understandably I quickly left this establishment and it took some time to digest the news that had just been thrown at me.
Feeling at a loss and unsure of which direction to take I eventually found Michelle, an audiologist local to where I live. Having somebody close to home was reassuring to start with, as I knew where I was going and knew I wouldn’t have far to flee if I had another bad experience.
Thankfully meeting Michelle couldn’t have been more different. She talked me through each stage of the hearing test in detail, so that I knew what was going on at all times. It can be very difficult to focus on a hearing test when your heart is racing, so Michelles relaxed manner and quiet environment really helped set me at ease from the outset.
I was more prepared for the results this time, but it was still a shock to hear those words again “you have significant hearing loss in both ears”. But instead of thrusting a brochure at me, Michelle was on hard with a box of tissues and a listening ear, as I finally broke down and properly digested the news that I would need hearing aids.
Michelle then very gently guided me through the different options, based on my own lifestyle and budget. She spoke with knowledge about the different hearing aids, showing me different models and talking at length to find the right option for me.
Once I received my hearing aids Michelle patiently guided me through how to use them and dealt with my technical questions quickly and efficiently.
Wearing hearing aids for the first time is an overwhelming experience and Michelle’s honesty in how overwhelming this can be really helped me to adapt to my new environment.
I cannot thank Michelle enough for her patience, empathy and professionalism in literally changing my life. "
